Wonosobo sheep (Dombos) is an Animal Genetic Resource (SDGH) originally from Wonosobo Regency. The characteristics of Dombos which have fast growth and thick and super quality fur make the economic utilization of Dombos for meat and fur very promising.
Dombos feathers can be processed into various crafts that have high economic value, one of which is done by Ndhowon MSME actors in Wonosobo. The products produced by these SMEs are in the form of fashion products such as shoes, headbands, caps, prayer mats, jackets and other products.
Semarang State Polytechnic (Polines) service team consisting of Farika Tono Putri ST MT (Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering Department, Team Leader) with 2 members Ragil Tri Indrawati ST MT and Rizkha Ajeng Rochmatika and assisted by 3 students as a form of implementing MBKM in carrying out community service in Wonosobo, especially in Ndhowon UMKM.
"The assistance provided is in the form of applying Appropriate Technology (TTG) in the form of sheep wool decomposition machines and implementing integrated marketing communication as a strategy to increase productivity. The management of the fashion business from Dombos fur that has been carried out by Wibowo Ahmad so far has been carried out in a simple manner with self-developed machines, “said Farika Tono Putri ST MT to the press at the Polines campus, Friday (28/10/2022).
In the production aspect, all production processes are carried out with small-sized machines as a result of the MSME development. Production machines such as carding and spinning machines were made independently with small sizes. The problem with the production aspect is that there is no sheep wool decomposition machine so that the process of decomposing sheep wool is still done manually with human labor which causes high production costs. There is a problem in the management aspect, namely that so far marketing has only been done through offline exhibitions.
"This community service is a Community Science and Technology Application (PIM) scheme funded by the Academic Directorate of Vocational Higher Education, the Directorate General of Vocational Education, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology for the 2022 Fiscal Year. Activities start from June to November 2022. This program aims to help solve the problems faced by MSMEs and other business actors and increase the production power of MSMEs," said Farika Tono Putri ST MT.
The results of this service activity are the application of sheep wool decomposition machines as Appropriate Technology (TTG) with a production capacity of 15 kg/hour, the creation of product branding in the form of logos and labels aimed at providing the characteristics of the Ndhowon MSME product identity and the creation of a product portfolio in the form of a website that can accessed via the Ndhowon.com link which is integrated with 2 social media accounts and 1 e-commerce for online-based marketing to expand the reach of product marketing.
