Bumi Akpelni Polytechnic received a grant of a laboratory scale friction welding machine (Friction Welding Machine) which has been equipped with a PLC Controller and is the result of research from Semarang State Polytechnic Lecturer (Polines), Drs. Poedji Haryanto, S.ST., MT
The handover was carried out in the workshop laboratory of the Bumi Akpelni Polytechnic campus, Tuesday (23/8).
The grant for this laboratory-scale friction welding machine was started from a discussion between the Director of the Bumi Akpelni Polytechnic, Capt. Cahya Fajar Budi Hartanto, M.Mar., M.Si. with one of the research members, Iswanti, S.Sc., M.Sc. in January 2022 where the Bumi Akpelni Polytechnic will become a vocational education center that is ready to become a user partner of research results to improve welding skills.
The discussion continued until finally the handover of the friction welding machine was carried out.
The friction welding machine was handed over directly by the researchers and received by the Director of the Bumi Akpelni Polytechnic which was also attended by the Deputy Director, Head of the Ship Mechanical Engineering Technology Study Program (TRPK), along with related lecturers and laboratory assistants.
For information, this friction welding machine is equipment that works by utilizing hydraulic pressure and rotation which generates heat so that it can melt metal for welding purposes such as joining, etc.
The advantage of using this tool is that no additional media is needed for welding, it minimizes the risk of work accidents, and it can be done in a shorter time.
After the welding process is complete, the results of the welding can be checked microscopically with the equipment provided by the researcher and part of the equipment donated.
The Director of the Bumi Akpelni Polytechnic in his remarks said that the addition of this machine was a form of effort to strengthen the study program which had just transformed from D3 Teknika to S.Tr. TRPK.
In addition to increasing the knowledge and skills of cadets, this machine is also expected to be a means of applied research both for internal lecturers and from other campuses who still really need it because according to researchers, until now there are only 3 of these machines, namely in Polines, Undip, and now at Akpelni Earth Polytechnic.
The handover was marked by cutting the ribbon and signing the handover minutes.
After the handover ceremony, a demonstration of the friction welding machine and microscopic inspection were carried out.
The event ended with a suave discussion discussing synergies and collaboration regarding the use of friction welding machines in the future.(*)
